Description

Christmas in March! This is the first process of NGC 2264 also known as the Cone Nebula and Christmas Tree Cluster. Two other objects within it are unofficially known as The Snowflake Cluster, and The Fox Fur Nebula. This is an emission nebula with star cluster located 2500-3000 lightyears away in the constellation Monoceros. It is located up and to the left of Betelgeuse in Orion and lined up straight above the bright Star Sirius, Just above the Rosette/Skull Nebula.

The star cluster can be observed with binoculars the nebula will just look like fuzzy white dust but it’s still a neat object to observe and challenging to locate. Taken with Optolong dual narrowband filter on with William Optics Zenithstar 61 telescope. ZWO ASI295 MC Pro Camera aided by the ZWO ASIAIR. Tracking was done with the Sky-Watcher EQM-35 Pro. Guidescope used: Svbony 30mm and an additional ZWO ASI120MC Camera. Photo processed with PixInsight Software, RC Astro tools Star, Blur and noise XTerminator. @Bill Blanshan’s Hubble scripts.
